HEBDEN Bridge will celebrate the Spring Bank Holiday with its very first Big Green Weekend.
The centrepiece of activities is The Big Green Market – a street market with a difference featuring all things green, eco, organic and ethically produced.

The Big Green Market will visit Hebden Bridge marina on Sat 24th, Sunday 25th and Monday 26t
h May.

Stallholders will bring an exciting mix of organic and locally produced food, fairtrade and ethical clothing, as well as gifts and accessories.

These include Black Yak who specialise in fair trade high quality and stylish clothing, crafts and accessories from the Himalayas and Nepal.

Rupert Harrison from Black Yak says: "As a Fair Trade supplier Black Yak has a strong ethos of working together with our producer partners to ensure that they have good working conditions and practices. We also work with our crafts people to help them build and grow viable businesses from which their whole community may benefit."

As well as providing a great opportunity to buy lovely and ethical things the market also hopes to provide information on how we can all become greener.

Jane Redfern from The Big Green Market says: "One of the most interesting aspects of the Market is the diverse backgrounds of the stallholders themselves.

"Some are full time market traders, some have shops, and others have jobs that you wouldn't necessarily associate with trading on a market. Some design their own products, some have simply been intrigued by product itself and had enough belief to import it into Britain, but most have travelled or lived in the country of origin and all are committed to the ethos of the market."

"We are particularly keen to help local producers and designer-makers reach out to a new audience – people producing their own products are not commonly seen as being green but in today's climate of mass production and concern about food air miles – local is both ethical and ecologically responsible."

The market will be open from 9am to 5pm on each day and is free for people to wander around.

There are tasty treats for people to try – including hot venison burgers from Barnsley's Round Green Farm and yummy organic beer brewed by Little Valley Brewery.

A host of events are being hosted at various venues around the town, inncluding the Alternative Technology Centre.
