LOCAL landscape photographer Jefferson Hammond has been awarded the Licentiateship Distinction by the Royal Photographic Society.
Jefferson, who is based in Hebden Bridge, was required to present a portfolio of work to the Society at their headquarters in Bath.

The portfolio of work submitted was comprised of a sequence often monochrome images depicting the South Pennines landscape.

Although Jefferson has no formal training as a photographer, he has over twenty years experience of photographing the landscapes of the South Pennines, as well as many other parts of the British Isles.

Following a break of several years, Jefferson has only recently returned to photography and although he has a background in black and white and traditional darkroom work, he now works exclusively in digital.

Jefferson said "I am pleased with the recognition for my work that the award represents and working on the portfolio has allowed me the opportunity to further develop my photographic skills. I am particular indebted in other members of RPS who have help me achieve this award through their advice and support."

The Royal Photographic Society was founded in 1853 "to promote the Art and Science of Photography", a mission it continues to this day in the United Kingdom and through its considerable overseas membership.
