A VILLAGE festival got off to a bang despite the drizzly weather with scores of people flocking to its doors.
And the fifth annual Heptonstall festival didn't disappoint with bands, theatre shows and food and drink stalls all keeping the crowds happy despite the not-so-summery weather.
Even with the planned jester's competition cancelled due to a lack of interest, the festival certainly lived up to its unique reputation with everything from coconut dancers to The Four Horsewomen of the Apocalypse on show in Weaver's Square.
Geoff Scott, festival organiser, said: "The day went really well and there was some great entertainment.
"We put a lot of planning and effort into it and the whole village can be proud."
The festival also raised money for local girl Kahlia McDermondy who has cerebral palsy and cortical blindness.
Street collections and an auction of signed photos and dvds of former commonwealth heavy weight champion Richard Dunn, who was there on the day, raised £300 for a new chair for Kahlia.
