Young poets celebrate

PUPILS at Riverside Junior School were winners at an annual poetry competition.
The year four children at the school took home the prize for best key stage two anthology at this year's Bearder Poetry Competition at Dean Clough, Halifax.

The youngsters battled it out against fellow students from schools across Calderdale for the coveted prize which was awarded after pupils from the school wrote poems for their anthology which was entered in the competition.

Anne Walker, headteacher said that five of the year four pupils travelled to Dean Clough where they performed a selection of the poems in front of judges, parents, friends and teachers.

She said: "We are thrilled to win the shield for the best anthology and it is a result of all the hard work of the pupils and the staff.

"I am delighted that we were commended for our performance and we are looking forward to getting the anothology back so that we can display the winning poems in the school and on our new website which will be relaunched in September."
