LFA Youth Cup
BOROUGH'S first defeat of the season was inflicted by Ladybridge who made the trip from Bolton to Bellholme and succeeded in progressin
g to the last 16 of the competition.
Boro were blown away within the starting ten minutes when Ladybridge took a 3-0 lead. Boro were shell shocked by the pace and quality of the opposition but they showed character by stopping the onslaught and slowly gained a foothold in the match.
Midway through the first half they were awarded a free kick 30 yds from goal and Krogulski hit an absolute screamer into the roof of the net to give his team a lifeline. This was just what Boro needed to restore belief and they began to grow in confidence.
Boro's second goal was scored before the break when Goggins fired home and despite other missed chances at either end Boro were the more relieved to go in at the break only one goal behind.
In the second half Boro were under intense pressure again for the opening ten minutes and showed great resolve to hold the visitors back.
However, Ladybridge scored their fourth when they made good progress on the left and their winger cut inside and fired home with a superb effort on the angle.
Boro have shown that they never give up and within minutes pulled another back as Earnshaw broke through to finish confidently. Boro were now in the ascendancy and it was the visitors turn under pressure.
A breakthrough for Boro saw Goggins lift the ball over the keeper for what would have been the equaliser only to see it fall agonisingly wide of the upright.
At this stage it was slightly against the run of play when Ladybridge netted their fifth when Gale saved well form a close range effort pushing the ball away from goal. Another Ladybridge player followed in and despite Marshall's efforts the ball rolled into the goal.
There were other half chances for Boro but they ran out of time and were left reflecting on a disastrous opening ten minutes which cost them the tie.
Throughout the match Boro's defence worked hard under pressure with Ben Travis the pick of the back line. Meanwhile Krogulski was tireless in midfield supporting the front pairing of Earnshaw and Goggins - with all three scoring Boro were able to take some positives from the match but had to concede the best team overall went through to the next round.

PUDSEY were two up before Saints even began to get into their stride.
Despite this set back Saints slowly began to move out of their own half and launch a few attacks. They almost got one back when Seb Holmes fired in a screamer from 20 yards out that looked certain for the top right hand corner of the net but somehow the goalkeeper managed, by the tips of his fingers, to edge it over the bar.
Joe Elwin delivered a superb ball in from the corner kick and after a frantic scramble in the Pudsey goalmouth the ball fell to Jay Glover who fired it through a crowd of players to find the back of the net.
Saints began the second half in search of the equaliser and with Pudsey beginning to show signs of loosing control they won a free kick which Elwin guided over the wall and into the top corner leaving the goalkeeper glued to his spot.
Jarred Brooks, Tom Barclay and Sam Rowntree held firm in defence supporting Richard Roberts, in goal. Whilst Josh Highley, Jake Grannan, Cieran Taylor and Jas Duncan continued to feed the ball forward in a determined effort to win the game in ordinary time.
The dogged determination of Ryan Roberts to chase down and win the ball deep in Pudsey's half paid off when he crossed into the box for Jacob Shaw to volley in what turned out to be the winning goal putting Saints into the third round draw.

AFTER two good hard fought matches last season in with the Halifax Irish - who flew out of the blocks and grabbed deserved one goal leads in both games before TSC battled their way back to win - many TSC followers were expecting more of the same.
However, this time the TSC lads were up to speed quickly and the expected Irish surge never got going, thanks to the steel of Jack Denton backed up by Chris Reeder in defence.
TSC took control of the game dictating the play and dominating possession which led to plenty of chances on goal.
But the match remained at 0-0 until TSC took a deserved lead a few minutes from half time, Henry Antemes netting to put Tod into the second half 1-0 up.
Tod made up for earlier misses and with midfield dynamo Jack Pearson overpowering his opponents chance after chance was created with Benjamin Pearson scoring four and Josh Dyer adding a double.
Unable to match the football TSC were playing the Irish play got more physical but TSC showed that they are more than able to cope with this. They kept playing football and they were certainly rewarded as they ran in six second half goals in total. With Thomas Stansfield being as good as ever in the nets it ended in a resounding 7-0 victory.
St Columbas Yellows U10....................1
Hebden Bridge Saints Tigers U10.......3
SAINTS Tigers took the opportunity of the half term fixture break to catch up on two matches postponed from earlier in the season and came within seconds of two successive victories.
On a raw day at Ling Bob the wind blew straight down the sloping pitch contributing to this game of two halves. Despite a bright opening to the game, Tigers defence were caught out by a long, wind-assisted clearance.
Yellows' striker ran on to the ball and finished well to take a 1-0 lead. St Columbas had chances to extend their lead but the post and excellent saves from Shay Taylor kept the score at 1-0.
Close to half time a Tigers attack looked to have broken down but Dan Davie picked up the ball and powered through to level the scores at 1-1.
After half-time, with the wind at their backs, tactical changes saw Tigers put Yellows under sustained pressure. Man of the match Alasdair Pedley linked play well throughout the second half. Twice he slotted the ball to Josh Peterson only for the keeper to keep Yellows in the game.
It looked as if Tigers were to be denied a first league victory until five minutes from time when another dangerous Peterson corner was cleared only as far as Davie who scored from the edge of the box to make it 2-1 to Tigers.
Yellows pushed hard for the equaliser but Owen Buchan and Jordan Birks made a string of decisive tackles. With one minute to go another Tigers corner flew all the way across the area to Callum Allan who controlled it well, picked his spot and made the game safe at 3-1.
Northowram Rams u10.......................2
Hebden Bridge Saints Tigers u10.......2
A NORTHOWRAM equaliser with the very last kick of the match robbed Tigers of a well deserved victory.
In a closely fought first half, both sides had chances. More excellent defending by Owen Buchan, intelligent clearances from Jacob Whitehead and fine saves from Shay Taylor kept the scores level. However, Rams finally found a way through to take the lead before the break.
Afterwards, despite playing into the wind, Tigers' played their best football of the season so far and soon equalised. Sam Thompson, who was a threat up front throughout the match, latched onto a through ball from Dan Davie to score from 15 yards out.
Man of the match Josh Peterson worked tirelessly in midfield. His cross was controlled well by Alasdair Pedley who then rolled the ball into the path of Sam Thompson for a tap in to claim his second goal.
Tigers looked to be in control of the match with Martin Howard and Jack Crummett quickly eliminating any further threat from the Rams. However, to their credit Rams kept trying. In the dying seconds a 25 yard lob cleared Tiger's defence and keeper to creep in under the bar and make the final score 2-2.
Warley Blues U7..................................5

TOD lost this game to a hard working and efficient Warley side by what would seem a sizable margin. Yet, had it not been for a seven minute spell of madness in the second half, the result would have been very different.
For the whole of the first period, and the first half of the second, the two sides went toe to toe, in an extremely hard fought and evenly matched contest with each side giving as good as they got. If anything, Tod were ahead on chances created, and probably deserved more from their first half showing.
Bragg in goal was in great form, reading the game well, and quick to snuff out any Warley chances. Ashworth and Emery were hard working and tenacious in defence. Eatherall was also in fantastic form, running rings around the home defenders and creating havoc in their defensive areas. Up front, the attacking trio of Law, with his tricks and flicks, and Sorrell and Jones with their speed and deadly shooting – certainly gave the hosts plenty to ponder.
Maybe it was the freezing wind, but for seven minutes in the middle of the second period, the visitors seemed to collapse, and conceded three quick goals, which ultimately led to Warley running out winners.
However, had Tod managed to continue their good work in this period, then Sorrell's goal on sixteen minutes (after good work by Eatherall), and Jones' fantastic solo effort close to the end would have given the visitors a share of the spoils. So despite losing, there were many positives for the visitors. Added to which, in the second game they got a deserved 3-2 win.

Warley Green U10...............................0
AFTER a preliminary round bye, Tod Sports started their campaign to win the cup for the third successive season with a 4-0 home win against a determined and well organised Warley Greens, who put in a terrific performance and probably gave the lads the most competitive game they have had so far this season.
Despite Tod having the bulk of the first half possession and attacking pressure, a well organised and disciplined Warley Greens defensive line kept the first half score down to 1-0.
However, with almost total domination in midfield and a quick and clinical front line there was a feeling that it was only a matter of time before Tod would open out a winning lead, which they did with three second half goals.
Another strong defensive display kept the Warley attack for the most part at bay and on the odd occasion they got through Thomas in goal dealt with it, with Warley's best effort striking the bar late in the second half.
Tod move into the Cup quarter finals and Warley Greens can look forward to contesting the Shield and with performances like today both teams should go far.
