Luddenden Foot...............5
FOOT took advantage of a gale force wind behind their backs to give them all the possession in the opening 15 minutes of this Calder Valley derby.
Worse was to come for Midgley as Johnny Mathews in goal had to lea
ve the field with a serious injury and with no substitutes it reduced them to 10 men.
Andy Bottomley took over in goal and his first piece of the action was to pull the ball back from over the line to deny Foot the lead. John Booth was tormenting the Midgley left hand side and saw two efforts really well saved.
Bottomley was at it again on the half hour mark when a thunderous strike from Pettifore was tipped around the post. Foot applied more pressure but nearly came unstuck when Tom Booth found himself clear this time a fantastic save from Robin Miles keeping the scores level at half time.
Midgley started well in the second half with the wind assisting and Craig Peckover found himself in the thick of most things. On 55 minutes he got his reward with a fine individual header to give his side the lead.
This really spurred Foot on and within two minutes Gawkroger levelled things from the edge of the box.
Booth again was menacing the Midgley defence and it was his pass that sent Gawkroger clear only to be upended in the box, Gawkroger coolly slotting home to give Foot the lead.
Foot were now in rampant mood and the disadvantage of 10 players was taking its toll on Midgley. Jordan Pettifore was causing trouble down the right and he finished off a good move with Darren Smith to make it 3-1.
Danny Kirman was finding space in the midfield and his through ball set Gawkrodger clear for his hat-trick giving Bottomley no chance. Moments later Dodd sent Booth clear and after rounding the keeper somehow put the ball wide.
It really was the Gawkroger goal show and on 85mins he scored his fourth. Nathan Hargreaves cleverly turned his marker on the edge of the box and found the unmarked Gawkroger with a simple tap in.
