CALDER Valley runners fared well in recent events held in Yorkshire,Lancashire and Cumbria.
Over 200 runners contested the 14 mile Sedbergh Hills race, over 6000ft of ascent and misty conditions to hamper navigating on the summits.
Luddenden-based Bill Johnson finished an excellent 36th place in 2.44.34, new club member Andy Fleet was 48t
h in 2.48.50
Pride of place though goes to Gayle Sugden who was first lady home in 2.55.51. Other finishers were Jon Underwood 102nd in 3.06.33, Darren Sugden 143rd 3.21.40, 146th was Lee Shimwell 3.23.43,158th Tony Steward 3.32.40,166th Dave Culpan 3.40.39, 174th John Nunn 3.45.47,184th Clare Fothergill 4.00.03, 185th Philip Jones 4.01.05 and 189th Martin Whitehead 4.06.41.
At the Whittle Pike race at Rossendale, new England International runner Jo Waites was first lady home in 49.42, Gayle Sugden - continuing her good form - was third home in 53.55 and Sharon Godsman finished in 57.11.
Other Calder finishers were Darren Sugden in 59.37,Thirza Hyde 1.03.28 ,Scott Henderson 1.06.51 and Linda Hayles in 1.08.04. The race was 4.5mile and conditions on the night were extremely wet.
In the Yorkshire Dales the Burnsall race had only one Calder Valley representative in Karl Gray he did finish in an excellent third place.
Locally, at the Norland Moor 7 mile race starting from Copley, Calder finishers were Chris Godridge in 25th place in 53.22, Dave Culpan in 57th place 60.22, John Nunn 78th 65.10 and Mick Banks 93rd 67.45.
