OLD Town brought a run of four consecutive defeats to an end with a stunning victory over Division two leaders Bridgeholme.
They claimed a three wicket victory off the penultimate scheduled ball.

Mohammed Basharat scored 64 for the home side but was one of six victims for Andrew Butterworth as they declared their innings at 221 for nine.

Bridgeholme’s total was reduced to 195 by rain and Paul Thwaites (59 no) took Town to within sight of victory before Butterworth (32 no) helped him over the winning line.

Mytholmroyd trail Premier Division leaders Warley by 18 points after a five wicket defeat at the hands of Sowerby Bridge in a rain-affected match on Saturday.

Rain reduced it to 30 overs’ per side when mopping up made a start possible at 3.30pm.

Having been put in to bat ‘Royd quickly lost Tom Earle, Spencer Harriers, Steve Senior and Kristian Halstead.

Zeb Mahmood made a typically quickfire 38 but Ben Orchard and Lee Smith took seven wickets between them to dismiss the visitors for 107.

Rain immediately after tea reduced the target to 99 but a 60-run opening stand between Nick Whitehill (38) and Tim Helliwell (34) took Bridge most of the way to victory before Gideon Foster, 3 for 42, and Shahid Rashid, 2 for 36, had some success with the ball for ‘Royd.

Luddenden Foot’s visit to Queensbury in Division one was washed out.

Mytholmroyd seconds dented old rival Sowerby Bridge’s title hopes as they piled up 255 for four.

Zahid Mahmood fell two runs short of a century and shared stands of 98 with Martyn Astin (35) and 83 with Luke Sutcliffe (66) as the home total climbed.

Royd then fielded well and took their catches and it was left to Bridge’s last pair Greg Pearson (17 no) and Arron England (10 no) to guide their side past the 180 mark and deny the hosts full points.

Old Town, against Bridgeholme, and Luddenden Foot, against Queensbury, saw their second team games abandoned without a ball being bowled.
