LUDDENDEN Foot got off to a flier in their Halifax League Premier Division fixture, scoring four times in the first half hour.

The dream start came after only five minutes when good play down the right from Jordan Pettifore saw Shelf concede a corner. Dave Maguire sent in a pacy shot which saw Danny Kirman steam in with an unstoppable header.

Five minutes later they added number two after a long clearance from keeper Robin Miles caught out the Shelf defence and Dave Maguire hit a 25 yard piledriver into the roof of the net.

Foot continued the onslaught with Alex Austin tormenting the Shelf defence and it was his trickery that lead to number three after leaving the full back in his stance and crossing for Gareth Gaukrodger to slot home.

Foot stepped up another gear with Richard Stock and Danny Kirman controlling the midfield. Again another long clearance from Miles set Austin free this time he coolly slotted home number four on the half hour mark.

Shelf pulled one back just before half time with a rare attack that lead to a free kick being deflected in off Richard Stock. The second half saw Pettifore hit a post and Miles was called into action with some well taken saves.

In the last ten minutes Pettifore broke free and saw his one-on-one well saved and a mix up on the goal line in the last minute between Maguire and Gaukrodger saw a certain goal missed.

It was a good day for Foot as their second team won a none-goal thriller against Halifax Athletic in Division three.

Gladwin led the way with a hat-trick while Mlodeski and Lym also hit the back of the net.

MIDGLEY United suffered their first setback of the campaign when they lost 4-2 at Greetland, who leap-frogged them into second place in the table as a result.

Goals from Walker and Greenwood gave Midgley United Reserves a share of the points from a 2-all draw against Salem Reserves.

Tom Garland struck twice and there was a third goal from John Stanjuck but Wadsworth United found themselves on the wrong end of a 9-3 scoreline against Sowerby Bridge Reserves.

Calder 76 Reserves lost 2-0 at home to unbeaten league leaders Volunteer Arms.

Sunday League

BRANDY Wine were on the wrong end of a giant-killing act in the Halifax FA Sunday Cup.

The Premier Division side lost 5-0 at home to Division two team Waiters Arms. Unbeaten Waiters started strongly, winning an early corner, from which Fenton found Wood who volleyed home superbly.

The visitors continued to press and from another pinpoint Fenton delivery Parry smashed home an unstoppable header, and it stayed that way up to the break with Doyle outstanding in midfield for Waiters.

Early in the second half, Brandy had a golden chance to get back into it when Wilson tripped Reme in the box, but Jones smashed the spot kick five yards wide. This spurred Waiters on and from a Dean Park cross, Coates rose to head home.
