Mytholmroyd's Austin just edged out at the last in classic bowls final

DARREN Griffiths won the £2350 Vital Services classic last Sunday at New Street Bowling Club, Littleborough, when he beat Mytholmroyd BC's Clive Austin 21-20 in the final to claim the £600. first prize.
The final was the game of the day as first Griffiths led 14-8 only for Austin to put together a 12 break and lead 20-14. Griffiths had one bowl left to save the match and did.

He then found a tricky mark over the middle of the green and ran out a
21-20 winner.

In the semi final Griffiths beat Richard Hobson of Hill Crest 21-16. Hobson had knocked out last year's winner Graham Wilson 21-17 in the quarter final. Austin beat Syke's John Wade 21-12 in the other semi final.

Andy Cairns presented the prizes and thanked Raymond Lorimer competition organiser.

Quarter-final: C Austin 21, M Holden 7; M Reagan 18, J Wade 21; G Wilson 17, R Hobson 21; D Griffiths 21, P Crag 15.

Semi-final: C Austin 21, J Wade 12; R Hobson 16, D Griffiths 21.

Final: C Austin 20, D Griffiths 21.
