TOMMY Boland and Robert Brown produced a repeat performance in last Saturday's Luddenden Foot Homing Society's race from Hullavington in Wiltshire when their two year old pigeon K30130 took first position for the second week running.
Again the bird was the partnership’s most fancied of their entries and won £51.77 from the pools, loft nomination and pontoon competitions. Not content with this Tommy and Robert went on to take five of the first six positions a sequence broken only
by John and Karen Laycock’s hen taking third place at Bolton Brow.

Fog in the South of England delayed the liberation of the Society’s 229 birds, sent by sixteen members, until 10.45 and with what little wind there was blowing from the East the winner took 3 hours, 9 minutes and 15 seconds to fly the 153 miles to Wheatley. The second pigeon, which had been third the week before, was fifty seconds behind its loft mate.

A squeaker sale for the Terry Divers Appeal, jointly organised by Halifax Flying Club, Ogden Homing Society and Luddenden Foot HS, was held last Sunday at the Belgrave Social Club, Claremount Road, Halifax and was a tremendous success with great support, not only locally, but from fanciers and friends all over the country.

Terry, who is a disabled member of the Society, needs a swivel car seat and special wheels for his wheelchair, costing in excess of £4,000, to make a real improvement to the quality of his life. Subsequently secretary Derek Brearley is very pleased to report that with the combined proceeds of the sale and cash donations received a sum of £5,034 has been raised.

Terry and his family are “over the moon” and the success of the appeal reflects great credit on the pigeon racing community and its very valued friends. Many, many thanks to all concerned.

This Saturday’s Championship race is from Portland.
