CALDER 76's superb cup run continued as they produced the Magic in the Magic Furniture Challenge Cup second round.
First division Calder claimed their third Premier scalp of the season when they won an extraordinary second round tie at Sowerby United 6-5.

Gavin Fleming gave them the perfect start, scoring after only 20 seconds for a side which has already accounted for champions Hebden Royd Red Star and Greetland in cup competitions this season.

Sowerby replied straight from the restart when Luke Maguire slotted home and within ten minutes they looked to have imposed their higher level credentials by taking a 3-1 lead.

Calder were not overawed and made Sowerby pay for missing some golden opportunities by surging into a 5-3 lead, Fleming completing his hat-trick.

Wilkinson pulled one back but when Hegginbottom's long kick caught out the home defence, Gavin Roper hit Calder's sixth, and his own third goal.

Sowerby bossed the final 20 minutes but could only conjure up Wilkinson's fourth goal of the afternoon.

Midgley United were poor in the first half at Siddal Athletic and could have few complaints about turning round 2-0 down.

However, they were much better with a change in formation and the elements in their favour and came through to win 3-2.

Simon Newbitt's shot into the top corner got them back in the hunt and Craig Peckover turned well in the six-yard box to level the score.

Johnny Matthews kept his side in the hunt with a great save, tipping the ball onto the bar and the importance of the save was shown when Tom Booth struck the winner for Midgley from 20 yards.

In the AMA Trading Invitation Cup Calder '76 Reserves, who have yet to win in the league this season, won 3-1 in extra time at Wadsworth United, Walker scoring all three Calder goals while Marsden replied for Wadsworth.

Midgley United Reserves lost 4-0 at home to Shelf United Reserves.

In the only local Sunday League fixture to survive heavy overnight rain Shoulder Royd kept up the pressure at the top of the First Division table with a 5-3 win at Copley Town.
