FIREWORKS night came early for Saints' girls as they rocketed 11 past Mapplewell for a record win.
A month of disappointing results due to missing key players was swept away as Saints attacked from the whistle. But they had to wait until mid-way
through the first half for Issy Wharton to open the scoring with a low drive from inside the area.
Bethany Waring soon made it two and then forced an own-goal to put Saints three ahead. Liza Zhabina tracked Mapplewell's dangerous forward and Kiera Holmes made several good saves before the home side pulled one back.
Any concern about scoring first after the break quickly disappeared as the travelling supporters were treated to a goal rampage. A superb passing move started by new player Lucyna Kazmierski at left back ended with Mia Cameron-Foulger playing a clever one-two with Waring on the edge of the box and then drilling the return ball into the right hand corner. Another highlight was a stunning free-kick over the wall from distance by Waring.
Mapplewell were in disarray and Saints capitalised on their one player advantage with a flurry of goals. Teegan Simpson won every tackle and at 8-3 Rhianna Purvis joined the goal-scorers, blasting in from close range.
With such a scoreline Saints' defenders can be excused allowing Mapplewell's outstanding striker to skip through to goal unchallenged. Knowing their record was in touching distance, Saints' forwards combined again to deliver a massive boost to the team's spirits.
