SHOULDER Royd and Stubbing Wharf were the teams hitting the Halifax Sunday League heights netting goals galore last weekend.
Shoulder moved level on points with leaders Stirk Bridge after the latter slipped up last Sunday, the valley side travelling to Carrington Rangers and dispatching the hosts 6-4 in a thriller of a game.

Goals from Adam Watts and Ben Clayton put Shoulder in front in the division one game's first ten minutes and Clayton made it three before Rangers' recovery began and they pulled two of the goals back.

But Watts scored again and with Richard Ingram and Jason Cartlidge netting, boss Simon Kendall was pleased with his team's performance, the level of footballing entertainment offered by both sides all the more sweet as the game was played in cold, wet and windy conditions.

Kendall feels that now level with Stirk with a game in hand and a good squad of players, Shoulder can be challenging for promotion.

In division three it was Stubbing Wharf making the headlines. Stubbing are in mid-table but they did what teams are supposed to do when playing bottom-of-the-table opposition - they whacked eight goals without reply past King Cross CB and AC Reserves.

In the premier division bottom-of-the-table Brandy Wine, by contrast to hapless King Cross, really raised their game and gave divisional leaders Spring Gardens a real fight before losing out by the odd goal in three.

Spring had taken the lead through Anthony Campbell by half time, but were stung by a Brandy Wine equaliser after the break. Only five minutes were remaining with Spring on the attack when Mark Heptenstall stabbed in their winner.

Spring acknowledged that Brandy had made a real game of it and with more of the same the valley side should make some headway up the table.

A similar scoreline in division two saw Albert Rovers lose out 2-1 to Halifax Rangers Reserves.

And finally, there was some joy for a King Cross CB and AC side, when the first eleven were 5-2 victors over Hollins Holme in the premier division.
